GHD hair is a Brit company, born and bred in Yorkshire.
GHD ( or Jemella Ltd are they are known) started off in 2000, and whilst we were all nursing our hangovers from the millennium in January, GHD came up with a revolutionary hair straightener.
When the first ever ceramic based hair straightening iron was introduced in the United Kingdom, no-one had ever experienced or seen anything much like it. Being an ex stylist for a leading hair salon, Robert Powls, knew a lot when it came to hair and when he first starting working with this new breed of ceramic irons he was convinced he was onto a winner.
Robert and 2 business partners purchased the rights to the product, called it the good hair day ( “ghd” ) hair straightener and started trading.
To start with, most hairstylists thought they were joking when they promoted the ghd hair straightener at a retail cost of nearly £100. But legend has it that consumers were thumping on the warehouse doors, making an attempt to bribe the staff and even making an attempt to break in simply to get their hands on a new pair of hair straighteners. With just about no advertising spend, ghd had achieved classic status in an incredibly short time period.
Folks who owned a ghd worshipped it and strongly assumed that their new hair iron was capable of miracles. Since those days, ghd has become one of the planet’s most respected brands, earning awards left, right and centre. There are now many imitators, but not one of them have come close to matching or exceeding GHD as the leading and most trusted brand of hair straightners across the world.
